It’s always good for party bands to include some contemporary floor-fillers alongside older classics, and the beauty of it is, the band can perform these tracks in their own style to suit the genre and vibe of the event, whether it’s a rock and roll anthem at the end of the night or a slowed down acoustic version, ideal for a wedding ceremony or afternoon performance.
Shape of You - Ed Sheeran
Ed made an epic comeback in the last year, and managed to chart a whopping top 10 singles in the top 11 all at the same time! 'Shape Of You' notched up an incredible 13 MILLION views in just two days on YouTube and it’s not hard to hear why - with provocative lyrics and a seriously stylish groove, this track will have the dance floor at your wedding or event, throwing shapes in no time.
Human - Rag N Bone Man
There’s something effortlessly epic about Rag N’ Bone Man’s number one hit ‘Human’ and although it’s not quite your usual party classic, it’s such a raw and epic track played on repeat on many a radio station and has catapulted Rag N’ Bone man to number one in several countries. We reckon it deserves prime position in a wedding band set list - maybe mashed-up with another track or slowed down to create an intimate first dance, John Lewis advert style!
24K - Bruno Mars
We didn’t think Bruno would manage to beat the catchy vibe of 2014’s Mark Ronson collaboration ‘Uptown Funk’ very easily, but he’s only gone and done it! Wedding bands are now spoilt for choice when it comes to Bruno Mars songs - whether it’s Uptown Funk, Treasure, Locked Out Of Heaven or a slow-dance track like Just The Way You Are performed as a first dance, it won’t be long before bands can start doing an entire set of just Bruno, for any superfans of Mr Mars out there!
Shut Up and Dance - Walk The Moon
US rock band Walk the Moon’s infectious hit song is finally getting its due. Months after it was first released, the song cracked the Top 10 on America’s Billboard’s Hot 100 and created a serious buzz as a song of the summer in the UK. Already requested repeatedly as a first dance track for weddings, this song has proved to be a smash hit with our bands, automatically filling up the floor whenever its performed!
Something Just Like This - Coldplay
Coldplay have always been a firm favourite for wedding music and their back-catalogue of hits never fails to disappoint at parties and events. Their latest track ‘Something Just Like This’ blends the perfect amount of romantic lyricism (“...fairytale bliss, I want something just like this...”) with a mega-catchy, dance-style chorus and some epic builds making it the ideal track for our live bands to perform.
