Our guide to some of the UK’s best wedding venues

The bands at Pro Bands have travelled all over the UK to play in some beautiful wedding venues across the country. It’s likely when you’re planning your wedding, you’ll opt for a venue that has some significance to you or that's nearby to family and friends.

But we thought we’d put together a list of somet of our favourite wedding venues, with some feedback from our bands, so if you’re still undecided on where you’d like to get married, perhaps this might help!

1. Lyde Court, Hereford

When it comes to barn wedding venues, these guys have got it pretty spot on. From the beautiful courtyard setting with central firepits you can toast your late-night marshmallows on, to the quaint little ceremony spot in a flower-filled barn out-building, there isn’t much we’d change about this venue! Surrounded by rolling hills and bleating sheep, it’s a countryside paradise tucked away near the welsh borders in Herefordshire.

What makes this double-height barn venue extra special is the pub-style feel as you walk through the old wooden doors - with a proper bar and a cosy seating area full of comfy vintage style sofas and chairs. With a proper kitchen area too, it means caterers can relax and enjoy enough space to prepare and serve all the food - and we know happy caterers = amazing food! For bands - the built in stage, disco ball and PA speakers that bands can plug into is music to their ears, as is the nice backstage area with loads of room for bands to store their empty cases once they’ve set up.

Our bands particularly loved the quaint, rustic, vintage-style theme running throughout and some very friendly and helpful staff! We can’t recommend this place enough for you and your wedding.

2. MC Motors, East London

As east London venues go, this tucked away venue (that used to be a car mechanics) sitting down a side street in Dalston is pretty perfect. It’s industrial warehouse-style design oozes character and natural charm with the skylighted roof providing an abundance of natural light. Filled with oversized props and retro furniture, it has a vintage meets industrial charm which makes it a really unique space for a wedding party.

The space lends itself to long banqueting tables for guests to dine at and is complimented by a number of wonderfully textured feature walls which have naturally dilapidated over the past hundred or so years. There are also a number of different floors available with parquet, mezzanine and oak boards all represented at various points. Just a short walk from Dalston Kingsland, upon arriving through the unassuming metal shutter entrance the term “Aladdin’s Cave” has often been applied!

There’s plenty of space for a band to perform and a big dance floor area and when one of our bands - Ruby & The Rhythms - performed there, they particularly enjoyed the street food stands that the bride & groom had booked instead of traditional caterers.

3. Trinity Buoy Wharf

Another awesome London venue that sits in a quirky industrial area on the banks of the river Thames, right opposite the O2 Arena - this offers a really unique London wedding setting that is sure to wow guests!! Located one mile East of Canary Wharf, Trinity Buoy Wharf has all the charm, character and space of a former buoy manufacturing site and is now a thriving centre for the arts and creative industries.

London's only lighthouse, Container City, Fat Boys Authentic American Diner and the range of historic buildings that surround the main ‘Chainstore’ venue provide the perfect backdrop to wedding photographs and you’ve got the option of two venues here – either used individually or together if you want to separate ceremony and reception locations.

What’s more - Trinity Buoy Wharf has a private pier which gives you and your guests the option to arrive by boat or include a boat trip in your day.

4. Pynes House, Exeter

A magnificent, private estate set in the green, rolling hills of the Devonshire countryside, and only a few miles from the centre of Exeter, this venue is an ideal country house venue for intimate weddings that maintain a grandiose and luxury vibe.

Steeped in history, Pynes House is an exclusive, country house wedding venue set in its own 37-acre park. Believed to be the inspiration for Barton Park in Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, Pynes House is a wonderful place to host your perfect day in true British heritage style.

The house was built in about 1700 and offers large sash windows, a beautiful stone stairway leading up to the grand main entrance, and spacious high-ceiling rooms that make you feel you’re starring in a period drama. Alongside 12 spacious bedrooms, there are a number of magnificent state rooms, with the capacity to comfortably seat up to 90 for a sit-down meal.

During the summer, you can wander through manicured lawns, ornamental terraces and pretty woodland, and in the winter enjoy the cosy romance of the house’s beautiful interiors, stunning views and warming open log fires.

5. The West Mill, Derby

This is one of those venues where they’ve got everything right. The lighting, the heating, the decor, the space, the vibe and the staff!

The West Mill is a magnificent Grade I Listed former industrial mill dating back to the early 1800’s. Originally built as a cotton spinning mill, the building played an important part in the industrial revolution. Having laid empty and derelict the four-storey building has been lovingly restored back to by its conversion into a beautiful wedding venue.

Retaining all of the industrial architecture of the 1800’s, the building is positioned in a superb setting on the riverbanks of the River Derwent. Inside, you can marvel at the barrel-vaulted ceilings, exposed brick walls, cast iron columns and beams, all just a stone’s throw away from the breathtaking waterfalls of the weir.
